Former National Football League (NFL) football player wide receiver Robbie Martin was drafted from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo in 1981. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked him during the draft, though he ultimately played for the Detroit Lions from 1981 to 1984. While with the Lions, Robbie Martin made a quick name for himself that continued the football success he had enjoyed at Cal Poly University and in high school. During his rookie year, he achieved the single-season record for most punt returns at 52 returns. Mr. Martin also scored punt return touchdowns during games against the Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, and Miami Dolphins in 1981, 1983, and 1985, respectively. He was later traded to the Indianapolis Colts, where he finished his NFL career. While playing with the Indianapolis Colts from 1985 & 1986, Mr. Martin continued his legacy as a top punt returner in the NFL. He again achieved a single-season punt return record with the team, though this was for total punt return yardage. In 1985, he accumulated 447 yards while returning 40 punts, earning him the number four spot as an NFL season leader for punt return yards. During his 6 year career Robbie Martin was a consistant NFL Stat Leader. Since retiring from the NFL, Robbie Martin maintains his interest in sports. He also enjoys golfing and filling his time with philanthropic endeavors.
